Exuding a chic, urban and stylish confidence that wouldn’t be out of place in a leading European city, The Ross in Killarney is brimming with personality and charisma. A boutique four star hotel in the centre of the vibrant town of Killarney, The Ross is famed for its cocktails, and celebrated for its vivid interiors. The contemporary feel of The Ross is not without substance, as the hotel is steeped in history that goes back almost 80 years.

Part of the Treacy family since 1938 and a sister hotel of The Killarney Park, Marie Treacy purchased the hotel and ran it successfully for four decades until her son Padraig took over in the late 1970s. A refurbishment in 2006 by Padraig and his wife Janet, has brought the hotel to its current quirky boutique hotel standing. Now, the hotel is being run by a third generation Treacy, Ciara, and her colleague Eleanor O’Doherty, who has seen the story of The Ross unfold since the 1980s.

Home to 29 sophisticatedly stylish rooms and suites, The Ross captures cool, colourful and cosmopolitan with the interiors in every bedroom. The rich fabrics, bold stripes and bright patterns of each room are balanced by the spaciousness and large windows that overlook either the walls of the Killarney National Park just across the road, or Killarney town centre. The comfy beds, Elemis pampering goodies and Nespresso machines, make sure that guests recover from exploring the natural landscape in good time to discover the treasures that await in The Lane Café Bar and The Pink Lounge Gin and Champagne Bar just downstairs.

With moreish food and an adventurous cocktail menu, The Lane Café Bar has one wall of floor to ceiling glass, making it the perfect people watching spot along one of the town’s most popular laneways. The Lane Café Bar is a real neighbourhood staple and has some of the best bar food in Killarney – think nibbles and dips, tapas boards, dirty salads and big burgers. The insiders place to go in Killarney, The Lane Café Bar dedicates a drink to every day of the week…Mondays are for Mojitos, Tuesdays for Caipirinhas, Wednesdays are for a good Old Fashioned, Thursdays are sweet and inspired by confectionary, while rum rum it’s suddenly Friday!

The Pink Lounge Gin and Champagne Bar has a selection of over 70 gins from across the world, from Drumshanbo to Dingle and from Spain to Surrey, and an envious selection of premium tonics and garnishes to choose from. With eight Champagne brands available, pink is definitely the new black in this part of town.

Patrick McGrath, the man worth his weight in juniper, is the brains behind The Gin Bible (or cocktail menu!) and extensive drinks menu at The Ross. Patrick is Operations Manager and also was involved in the development, creation and distilling of The Ross’ own gin brand, The Ross Gin. Following a blind taste test at Listoke Distillery in Louth, the team crafted the hotel’s own bespoke gin, which is floral and delicate, with basil, bay leaf, grapefruit, honeysuckle, rose and kaffir lime leaves. The perfect serve for The Ross Gin is with grapefruit and basil garnish and Fever Tree elderflower tonic.

After a pre-dinner drink, the next stop is Cellar One Restaurant and the scene is set on arrival by the vaulted ceilings and dramatic Missoni-esque string drapes and lights. At Cellar One, executive chef, Ian McMonagle, serves a delicious range of dishes that will whet any appetite. For starters, think wood-fired flatbread with smoked chicken, prosciutto, figs, walnuts and provolone cheese or Thai inspired wok-fried mussels and prawns. Surf and turf, curried cauliflower and slow roast pork belly are just some of the options for main course, before diners can delve into an old school classic banana spilt or knickerbocker glory, before it’s time to head back up the winding stairs for some pink and fizz.

The team at The Ross, while from all corners of Ireland and across the world, appreciate what’s just on the doorstep of the hotel, and so have put together their personalised guide to the best bits to see in the area. Why not get off the beaten track includes insider’s tips such as taking a sunset kayak around Ross Castle, a yoga class with Elaine from Navé Yoga, or an early morning jog to catch sight of the native red deer in the Killarney National Park across the road.

Sophisticated, fun and stylish, The Ross is the perfect location to enjoy all that Killarney offers. For further information, visit www.theross.ie, join the conversation on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
